Traffic infrastructure is often regarded by local governments and scholars from all walks of life as the first capital in the process of regional economic development. At the same time, transportation infrastructure construction often involves huge investment and large scale fiscal expenditure. It can also drive the development of local industry to some extent, and many advantages make it seen as an important channel for economic regulation. Therefore, this paper uses the panel data of 28 provinces in 1996-2015 years to study the logical relationship between traffic infrastructure and TFP growth rate, and further explores the direction and focus of transportation infrastructure construction in the future. This paper is mainly composed of two parts:theoretical deduction and empirical research. In the theoretical derivation, through the decomposition of TFP,the introduction of heterogeneous enterprise multi city trade model and the construction of market access evaluation, this paper tries to make use of model derivation to explain the mechanism of traffic infrastructure to TFP and its decomposed part more intuitively. On the empirical aspect, this paper discarded the traffic infrastructure and the measurement method of TFP in the past research. On the one hand,we get new variables describing the level of regional traffic infrastructure construction through the deduction of transportation cost-bilateral transport cost-market access. On the other hand, according to the theory of correlation decomposition,it is scientifically calculated and divided. The total factor productivity growth rate(TFPG)was solved.Through the regression of the overall and decomposing parts of the two,we find that:? The effect of traffic infrastructure on TFP is not significant in general. However, from the decomposition part, the construction of traffic infrastructure has a promoting effect on the rate of technical efficiency change, but it has a certain weakening effect on the scale effect and the rate of technological progress.?Further subregional studies, this paper finds that in the overall regression, the reduction of the traffic infrastructure is mainly from the western region, and the effect of improving the rate of change of technical efficiency is basically the same in the region.?In the eastern and central regions, the improvement of the level of transport infrastructure will effectively promote the improvement of regional technical efficiency and the rate of technological progress. Finally, according to the above research results, this paper puts forward the pertinent policy suggestions:the western region should cooperate with the policy guidance(such as the construction of the characteristic industrial park)in the process of the construction of the transportation infrastructure, and improve the attraction of the elements in the region. The eastern and central regions should further enhance their external economic radiation capability in the strategic context by further upgrading the level of regional transport infrastructure.
