As a new radar system,Phased array weather radar has been studied in the past few years.Compared with the traditional Doppler weather radar,it has faster scanning speed and higher spatial and temporal resolution.It has a great advantage in monitoring short-time strong convective weather.In order to reduce hardware complexity and cost of the radar system,the synthesis of phased array weather radar array and the implementation of pulse compression hardware are studied in this paper.The main content is summarized as follows.(1)The characteristics of the phased array weather radar and the new generation weather radar currently being used in the meteorological detection service are analyzed.The sparse array synthesis of phased array weather radar are a problem of solving multivariable nonlinear optimization problems.The development of the intelligent algorithm for solving the optimization problem is discussed.The array form of phased array weather radar is introduced,and the production of LFM signal and the method of pulse compression are analyzed respectively.(2)The significance of sparse array synthesis for phased array weather radar is introduced.It can achieve the requirement of meteorological target detection with the minimum number of array elements.A phased array weather radar array synthesis method based on iterative weighted l1 norm is proposed.And the closed-form solution of the array weight vector is obtained by the Lagrange multiplier method.The conjugate gradient method is introduced to accelerate the convergence speed and avoid the large-scale matrix inversion operation.The simulation results show that this method can effectively improve the convergence speed of the weather array synthesis of phased array.(3)By using pulse compression technique in phased array weather radar,the advantage of maximum distance is obtained without affecting the resolution of distance.The scheme of pulse compression processing system based on FPGA+AD is designed.By using the mode of different carrier frequency of the wide narrow pulse,close and long distance detection can be completed at the same time,and the blind area of radar detection is reduced.In the data processing,the high speed clock is used to perform matching filtering operation,and the hardware resources are reused in time.The utilization rate of FPGA hardware resources is improved.The algorithm is verified by FPGA online debugging and Matlab simulation.The comparison results show that the system meets the requirements of the hardware resources and the time limitation of the phased array weather radar,and has achieved the design goal.
