Abstract:Compared with conventional mechanical scanning Doppler weather radar, phased array weather radar(PAR) with a faster scan speed, is more conducive to the rapid changes in the weather disaster detection. In China PAR is still in the basic research stage, many basic problems need to be studied. Focus on the actual situation of PAR in China, this paper studied the reflective valuation and comparison method of PAR, the main contents and conclusions are as follows:(1)The article discussed the main advantage and development of PAR, based on this,it studied the difference between the Doppler weather and PAR on the scanning principle, the relevant parameters and the different ways of scanning. It also introduced the first S-band PAR of China which include framework of system, components of system, specific parameters, and scanning mode.(2)Based on the Probert-Jones weather radar equation,taking into account the beam width and gain of PAR are no longer constant but changes with the elevation angle and the using of pulse compression, it gives the weather radar equation of this phased array weather radar and estimates the radar reflectivity by using our actual phased array weather radar data.(3)Before getting the real detecting data of PAR, it simulated and analysed on observation errors of cloud intensity and structure with S-Band PAR And CINRAD/SA, based on the result, it analysed the difference of scanning features for S-band PAR and CINRAD/SA, and selected a more reasonable scanning mode. It provided the theoretics for the using of this PAR.(4)After getting the real detecting data, according to the relative position of radar data, scanning mode, and the difference of parameters,it studied the reflectivity comparison method on PAR and Doppler weather radar. The results show that the method can test the differences of PAR and Doppler weather radar, while the strength compensation method based on it was also effective.(5)A key advantage of PAR is its fast scan feature, it can get higher temporal resolution than the mechanical scanning Doppler weather radar. Therefore, based on the limited observation data of X-band PAR, it analysed its rapid change structure and the subtle changes in vertical and horizontal structure, and did a more detailed estimate of precipitation. The results showed:compared with conventional mechanical scanning Doppler weather radar, PAR can actually increase the time resolution of detection, while the precipitation estimation based on it is more accurate, and the spatial resolution is also higher, which provide good protection for the local short-term forecast.
