As urbanization advances at a high speed,the urban sprawls.As a result,the spatial distribution and the scale and structural arrangement are unreasonable;the construction land is extensively utilized with low efficiency;the imbalance between supply and demand is aggravated.Various increasingly prominent problems appear due to urban spatial expansion and are urgent to be solved.Therefore,the academic circles begin to pay more attention to the study on urban space expansion and urban growth boundary delimitation.In the article,Huaibei of Anhui province is selected as the object of study;the Landsat series image with multiple time phases and the foundation database are used as data sources;GIS technology and RS technology are utilized.On one hand,the article discusses the process of urban spatial expansion of the study area from 1992 to 2016;on the other hand,the article delimitates the urban growth boundary("UGB(s)")of the study area in the long-range year.For the urban space expansion of Huaibei,firstly,the article extracts the construction land area of Huaibei in 1992,1997,2002,2007,2011 and 2016 by applying advanced remote sensing technology,using the Landsat series remote-sensing image with multiple time phases as a data source,and utilizing GIS technology and Index-based Built-up Index(IBI).Secondly,the article assists MATLAB software to complete the delimitation and the automatic extract of boundaries of built-up area of Huaibei.The construction area in the study area in the whole study period is increased from 13.64 km2 to 130.19 km2(by 8.54 times).The increased area is 116.55 km2.Furthermore,the article selects spatial-temporal feature measurement indexes,such as the utilization intensity,the expansion elasticity coefficient,the center of gravity,and the compactness,to reveal the spatial-temporal dynamic evolution features of Huaibei construction land in nearly 25 years.The results indicate:the integral level of utilization intensity is medium,but the urban expansion intensity is higher in the whole study area;the expansion elasticity coefficient indicates the intensive degree of urban land utilization in the study area is not high,and the relationship development between human and earth is inharmonious on the whole;through general observation on the change of the built-up area in the study period,the center of gravity integrally deviates towards the east,and relatively concentrated;in the meantime,with the fast development of reform and opening,the plan for each economic and technological development zone is established,and the compactness of the built-up area is gradually decreased.Then,the article further analyses driving factors and influence factors for urban space expansion from the aspects of economic development,population,policy planning,traffic facilities,and natural geographical environment.The results indicate:the economy and population,the government decisions(plans),the traffic and the natural environment are respectively the driving mechanism,the guiding mechanism,the endogenous mechanism and the dual mechanism for Huaibei urban space expansion.Finally,the article focuses on the analysis of the rational land use for urban space expansion and the changes of Huaibei subsidence area.The fast expansion of urban space brings the problems associated with resources and environment,such as the excessive waste of the land resource,and many man-made subsidence areas are generated by the exploitation of coal resources.For the delimitation of Huibei UGB(s),firstly,the article establishes the foundation database by usirng the land utilization data,the digital elevation data and social and economic statistics as data sources;secondly,according to the actual circumstance of Huaibei,with consideration of the nature factor and the human factor,the article selects the coal mining subsidence area,the gradient and beauty spots to establish the assessment indicator system for urban ecology suitability of Huaibei.The results indicate:with high,medium and low assessments on ecology suitability,the land use scale is gradually increased;the used lands are 122.47 km2,218.03 km2,581.17 km2 respectively,accounting for 13.29%,23.65%and 63.06%of the study area respectively.Furthermore,in combination with the analysis on land resources,water resources and the water environmental supporting capacity,the article predicts the urban construction land scale of the study area in the long-range year.The results indicate:the population 'which resources will be able to bear in 2050 is 2.763 million;the maximum area of urban construction land of the study area will be 276.30 km2.Finally,based on the CA model in logistic regression,and comprehensively considering the driving factors of urban growth,the article obtains the range and the trend of future growth of the study area via simulation;with the attachment of construction range of recent plans and comprehensive consideration of rational delimitation on natural and administrative boundaries of the study area,the article finally obtains the UGB(s)of the study area in the long-range year:the area is 257.07 km2,occupying 27.89%of the study area.
