Shallow geothermal energy is a clean and environmentally friendly energy which has attracted widely attention and been widely applied.The energy provides a potential to replace part of conventional energy and a significant advantage of energy-saving and emission-reduction.Driving by increasingly sophisticated ground source heat pump(GSHP)technology and national policy,the exploitation of shallow geothermal energy has entered a stage of rapid development in China.While the exploration and evaluation of shallow geothermal energy is the important part of promoting its scientific and rational planning,development and utilization.Relied on the research project hold by Jiangsu Housing and Urban-rural Construction Department,combined with the work of writing the first geological environment monitoring for utilization of the shallow geothermal energy standard,the paper is based on a large number of site survey,sufficient collection and analysis of existing geological,hydrogeology,GSHP demonstration projects data,in-situ tests data and previous work of Jiangsu Province.In this paper,a suitability evaluation of shallow geothermal energy development and utilization and an analysis about the influence mechanism of geological environment factors on the potential of shallow geothermal energy are carried out.Moreover,a scientific analysis of shallow geothermal energy is presented in the study area.The principal conclusion are as follows.(1)The geological conditions,the hydrogeological condition,the thermal physical properties of rock and soil and the characteristic of shallow ground temperature field are the major factors that affect the potential of shallow geothermal energy resources.The existing condition of shallow geothermal energy in Jiangsu Province is good,especially along the Yangtze River.(2)The study reveals the geologic genesis and regional distribution rules of the shallow geothermal energy,and the result shows that the monotony of the development mode and the design parameters are inconsistent with the actual conditions,so it is easy to produce adverse consequences.(3)Suitability zoning can provide a reference for the regional development planning and resource environment management of shallow geothermal energy.The total suitable and less suitable area of shallow geothermal energy development and utilization is 78056km2,which is accounting for 77.04%of the total area of Jiangsu Province.It is better to exploit the energy by vertical ground source heat pump system determined by the conditions of shallow geothermal energy in Jiangsu.(4)Within the range of a hundred meters depth in the suitable and less suitable area,the total energy reserves is about 2.494×1016 kJ/? that equals to the amount of 3.30×108t standard coal.The total heat power of ground source heat pump system is 1.21×109kW in summer,8.70×108kW in winter,the calculation result shows,which can guarantee an area of 1.21×1010m2 cooling demand and 1.09×1010m2 heating demand.(5)A socio-economic benefit analysis of energy development and utilization has been made depending on the shallow geothermal energy potential evaluation.Shallow geothermal energy development and utilization has a good energy-saving emission reduction benefits.To exploit the shallow geothermal energy can bring geological environmental effects such as:rock and soil thermal imbalance,ground subsidence,groundwater pollution and underground ecological environment destruction.
