With the process of economic globalization,more and more enterprises realize that relying solely on the knowledge and technology inside the enterprise to carry out the new product development(NPD)has been unable to cope with the increasingly fierce market competition,in order to produce more new products to meet market demand,enterprises begin to acquire knowledge and technology from outside.In this open innovation environment,enterprises are increasingly focusing on the effective management of all aspects of NPD,especially the early stage before the new product design or concept comes into being,namely fuzzy front end(FFE)stage,and the strategic choice of FFE management activities is also an important part of the enterprise in the NPD.In view of this,based on the perspective of open innovation,this paper systematically expounds the concept and characteristics of crowdsourcing strategy and FFE,through analysing the relevant literature and the main theories,the research model of crowdsourcing strategy,FFE and product innovation performance is built.In order to verify the research model proposed in this paper,a questionnaire investigation was conducted on the middle and senior managers of manufacturing enterprises in China,and processing the collected data using data software such as SPSS and AMOS.This paper empirically analyzes the influence of crowdsourcing strategy and FFE on product innovation performance,the relationship between crowdsourcing strategy and FFE,and the mediating role of FFE in crowdsourcing strategy and product innovation performance.The results show that crowdsourcing strategy has a positive impact on interdisciplinary concept,knowledge sharing and project planning involved in FFE activities,and can improve product innovation performance.The effective management of FFE activities can also mediate the promotion of product innovation performance from three aspects of interdisciplinary concept,knowledge sharing and project planning.This study links crowdsourcing strategy with FFE in innovation activities,and broadens the research perspective of FFE activities.By combining theory with practice,it verifies the relationship between crowdsourcing strategy,FFE and product innovation performance.The research results not only provide theoretical and methodological support for in-depth analysis of the relationship between crowdsourcing strategy,FFE and product innovation performance,but also have important practical significance for Chinese manufacturing enterprises to use crowdsourcing strategy to get quality creativity and improve product innovation performance in FFE.
