Urbanization is an inevitable result of economic development. It is an integrated process of industrial structure upgrading, rural population transferring to cities and production mode from rural to urban type.Urbanization is an important breakthrough for China’s reform and development, and it is also a necessary way to solve the relative surplus problem caused by unreasonable industrial structure in China.Urbanization is a long-term strategy for China’s development[1].On the whole, the evolution of land ownership is consistent with the promotion of urbanization[2],so it is suggested that the evolution of collective land ownership will promote urbanization. This paper firstly analyzes the development stage of collective land ownership from the perspective of history, and systematically studies the development course of China’s urbanization.Generally speaking, the reform process of land ownership is progressing with the development of urbanization. From the perspective of marxist political economy, the mechanism of the evolution of collective land ownership to urbanization is explored. The supporting role of collective land ownership in urbanization is mainly manifested as the transfer of land rent. From the Angle of political economics, collective land ownership reform development of agricultural productivity, and the land rent, rent structure and distribution of land rent, influences the degree of urbanization. The increase of land rent will lead to the expansion of urban scale, namely, the expansion of land urbanization, but the population urbanization is not enough, and the large number of farmers cannot be converted into urban residents. The change of land rent structure affects the spatial structure of the city. The distribution of land rent increases the income of urban and rural residents and the gap of welfare benefits. In this paper, the empirical analysis is carried out by using the data of Yangtze river delta, and the analysis results of the empirical data validate the foregoing inference. The following conclusions are drawn :(1)the evolution of land rent in collective land ownership has a mediating influence on urbanization.(2)the transfer of land rent is the main driving force for urbanization development.(3)land ownership change of productivity development led to the changes in the structure of land rent, the original differential rent into new differential rent, land abundance is still an important factor affecting the development of agriculture.(4)the rational allocation of land rent is still an important way to improve the urban-rural income gap and promote the development of modern agriculture.
