This study accepts an asset-based method to hypothesize the livelihood strategies followed by indigenous people in rural Bangladesh in particular,Rangamati,Khagrachri and Dinajpur districts. To define livelihood strategies in terms of livestock based on-farm management, primary data was gathered from 300 sample households in the study area.We used descriptive statistics, inferential statistics and an econometric model to analyze the data.Descriptive statistics was used to describe the sample households' asset-based social, economic, demographic and formal factors. The wealth status workout showed that from the total sample households(HHs)10%,46.7% and 43.3% were better off, medium and poor respectively, gathered into four livelihood strategies with dissimilar outcomes and levels of livelihood divergence. In case of income, the study result(s)designated that, farm alone livelihood strategy has/have enhanced outcomes.Unexpectedly, some households were following nonfarm and off-farm activities as key livelihood strategies rather than on-farm.The multinomial logit(MNL)model showed that out of the 14 descriptive variables,10 variables were statistically significant. These variables comprise sex, age, education, farm size, livestock holding, association in local leadership, annual cash income, credit access, input use,and training which were influencing households' choice to select of livelihood strategies. The results of this study recommend that differential access to,or investment of livelihood assets/capitals regulates the choice of an indigenous person household's strategy.Asset-poor households should be stimulated to involve in activities with better economic return.
