Technological Competitiveness Of Chinese Mobilephone Enterprises Based On Patentometric Analysis

Technological innovation drives the economic development while the technological competitiveness is the critical factor of the industry competition pattern and future trends.To cope with global competitions and meet future development demands,Chinese mobile phone enterprises should focus on improving their technological competitiveness.Research on the technological competitiveness of Chinese mobile phone enterprises will help them learn more about their own strength.Then the enterprises can consolidate the domestic market and dominate the international market to achieve the full internationalization.In this paper,the technological evolution of the global mobile phone industry is reviewed firstly,including some Chinese mobile phone representative enterprises,such as Huawei,ZTE,Coolpad,and Lenovo.Then the technological competitiveness of Chinese mobile phone enterprises is analyzed quantitatively based on 150322 patents in DII.By calculating the related patent indexes,the Chinese mobile phone enterprises' technological competitiveness in three mainstream technological fields of mobile phone industry,human-computer interaction,application & service,and low power consumption,will be known.Then,patent portfolio is used for further analysis of Chinese mobile phone enterprises' technological competitiveness.Integrated the analysis results from patent indexes and patent portfolio,the paper makes conclusions as follows.There is still a certain gap between Chinese mobile phone enterprises and the foreign leading enterprises.But Chinese mobile phone enterprises develop rapidly and show great initiative in new technology,which foreign leading enterprises are weak at.In the fields of top three mainstream technologies,China mobile phone enterprises have begun to show their ability in application & service,and low power consumption.In future,to improve technological competitiveness,Chinese mobile phone enterprises can step up their research and development in human-computer interaction with more money and manpower,and transfer investment from application & service to low power consumption.Finally,some strategies in the view of enterprises and government is given to improve Chinese mobile phone enterprises' technological competitiveness.
