Evaluation And Spatial-temporal Evolvement Of The City Competitiveness Of Gansu Province

With the advent of the era of knowledge economy,the city is the center of economic,political and cultural activities.At the same time,it is also the distribution center of the capital,technology,information and other resources.The status and role of city is becoming more and more important in the process of national and regional development.Urban competitiveness is a measure of the overall strength of the city's economy,science and technology,culture,environment,infrastructure,etc.Fundamentally speaking,the change of the urban competitiveness restricts the competitiveness of the country and the region.As an important part of Silk Road Economic Belt,Gansu is in an important period of development.In this paper,12 cities in Gansu Province are as research subjects for the evaluation of the competitiveness of Gansu province and the analysis of spatial and temporal evolution.It is of great significance to study the urban competitiveness of Gansu province from the dual dimensions of time and space,which is of great significance for the city to find its own position and enhance the overall competitiveness of Gansu province.Therefore,this study defines the concept of urban competitiveness based on the literature review of the urban competitiveness evaluation system,the model of urban competitiveness,the method of urban competitiveness and the definition of urban competitiveness.This paper also constructs the index system of urban competitiveness,which consists of seven categories in totals of 36 indicators,including urban scale,comprehensive economic strength,industrial structure,communication and opening up,scientific and technological innovation,governmental management,and comprehensive social environment.Based on the statistical data of the 12 cities in Gansu Province in 2011-2014,the paper gets the score and rank of the comprehensive competitiveness and each sub competitiveness by using the principal component analysis method of the 12 prefecture level cities in Gansu Province.On this basis,the time evolution of urban competitiveness is analyzed by the change trend of each principal component in each year,and using Arc GIS10.2 software to analyze the spatial differentiation and spatial expansion of urban competitiveness in Gansu Province.The results show that the provincial capital city of Lanzhou has been in a leading position from the overall competitiveness of Gansu Province.The urban competitiveness of Jiayuguan,Jinchang and other cities of Hexi Corridor Economic Zone is relatively strong,but the city competitiveness of Dingxi and Longnan is fairly low.The competitiveness of cities is high in the West and low in the East.From the point of view of the competitiveness of each segment,the cities show a clear "low level" concentration phenomenon.Based on the analysis of the spatial differentiation of urban competitiveness in Gansu Province,it is found that the urban competitiveness of Gansu has not changed in four time periods.Only Lanzhou is in the first echelon of Gansu's urban competitiveness,and the "Pyramid type" urban system is obvious in Gansu province.Based on the analysis of the spatial expansion of urban competitiveness in Gansu Province,it is found that only provincial capital city Lanzhou has a strong ability to radiate.Finally,according to the empirical analysis,the paper puts forward some policy recommendations for the future development of Gansu Province.
