A considerable amount of researches have revealed that Workplace Ostracism is a pervasive and universal phenomenon at workplace. The present study reported here examined the effect of Subjective Well-Being(SWB),which is a construct with three components that include life satisfaction, positive affect(PA),and negative affect(NA)on Workplace Ostracism by focusing the joint moderating role of Emotional Intelligence(EI).Our theoretical model was tested using data collected from 1300 employees in different firms from different provinces in China, such as Beijing,Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region,Guangdong,Fujian,Shanxi, etc.Life satisfaction was assessed with the Satisfaction with Life Scale(SWLS,Diener et al.,1985).Affect dimension of SWB was assessed using the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule(PANAS;Watson et al.,1988).Employees completed the 10-item Workplace Ostracism scale developed by Ferris et al.(2008)which assesses exclusionary behavior.EI was measured with the sixteen items constructed by Wong and Law(2002)with each item rated on a 5-point Likert-type scale.Data processing used SPSS18.0 and AMOS17.0,and we followed Cohen et al.’s(2003)procedures by conducting a four-step hierarchical multiple regression analysis to test the moderate role of EI.The findings showed that when employees with high levels of EI,the negative relationships between life satisfaction,PA and Workplace Ostracism were strengthened, the positive relationship between NA and Workplace Ostracism was weakened. |
