Research On The Effect Of Education,Employment And Public Health Services Capability On China's Regional Poverty Disparities

The problem of poverty has been a major issue that has plagued the development of human society all over the world.The United Nations has listed poverty as the top-prior problem amongst the three problems(3Ps refers to Population,Pollution,and Poverty)in the process social development.Anti-poverty has always been a hot spot and difficulty in handling the three issues.Although the poor in most areas have already solved the problem of inadequate food and clothing which is benefited by the strategy of long-term anti-poverty,several serious setbacks are still existing.For instance,the imbalance in regional economic development restricts the sustainable economic growth while also causes social instability which discloses a warning that the mission of poverty eradication still requires a long way to carry on.In the 21st century,poverty is no more an issue simply referring to lack of necessities:of material well-being.Contrarily,it means that the lives could be prematurely shortened,made hard,painful or hazardous,deprived of capability of understanding and communication,robbed of dignity and confidence,as well as excluded from the society.The study on poverty has been lasting to be unsolved till today on worldwide level and so as in China.The thesis mainly contains five chapters.The first chapter is to introduce the research background of the topic as well as the methodologies adopted.Also,in this chapter the paper will illustrate its contributions to the topic and its remaining inadequacies.The second chapter tends to overview the major theories both domestic and overseas related to the topic including poverty and regional poverty disparity.Then the chapter carries on to introduce Amartya Sen's capability approach and analyse the relations between capability,social welfare and regional poverty disparity.Moreover,the chapter tries to give its own definition of social welfare used in the paper based on the previous studies of social welfare.After having the theoretical argument,the third chapter first introduces the current situation of China's regional poverty disparity.Then the chapter moves on to use quantitative methods(Stata 13.0)to make regressive analysis of the relations between the social factors(education,employment and public health services)and regional poverty disparities.This chapter explains the reason of selecting the variables both independent and dependent,presents the test results and analyses the correlations between the factors and regional poverty disparities.Besides,the paper tries to study the causes behind those results.The fourth chapter is to review the strategies to alleviate poverty these years before making policy proposals and updated ideas on anti-regional poverty differences from three perspectives including education,employment and public health services.The fifth chapter concludes the research on this topic,reaffirms the necessity of attaching importance to having capability of reaching to the social factors in the process of targeted poverty alleviation and analysis and demonstrates its research prospect.The contribution of this paper mainly reflects on the following aspects:First,the current major studies focus on the relations between economic factors and poverty while few notices the social factors that lead to poverty.The thesis tends to explore the correlation between the social factors and poverty degrees enlightened by Amartya Sen's capability approach.Second,the current studies mainly research on the national level regarding poverty measurements and poverty relief.The thesis works on the regional poverty disparities with a range of 31 provinces and municipalities based on the results of regional poverty measures.Third,in order to respond to the call of targeted poverty alleviation,the thesis tries to measure and analyze the poverty levels on provincial level instead of national level and adjust measures to local conditions.Besides,the paper proposes specific policy recommendations related to education,employment and public health services for poverty alleviation according to the different results in different provinces.
