Cultivation of cotton plant in Malian constitutes an important economical resource of the country.Moreover,it represents an income generation for various numbers of families.The main objective of this research is to investigate the performance of Malian cotton exports(MCE)in the international market during the period of 2000-2013.For quantity analysis,competitive position was used;a simple linear regression was employed to measure the actual and estimated quantity and price.While,Gravity models was used to measure the economic masses.The examination of competitiveness of MCE in the international market illustrated that the Malian cotton exported in 2013 and 2000 accounts for 1.7% and 2.9% of the total word export respectively,with a negative average growth rate of 41.38%.The maximum Malian cotton exported was reported in 2001 which depicted 3.4 % of the world cotton export(WCE).The competition of the MCE in this market is not depending on price,production or quality,but it results from the fluctuation of the policy in the international market trade.The result revealed that among the main importing countries,Malian cotton received the smaller amount compared to other competitors.Linear regression reported a negative but significant liaison between the ratio of Mali-to-USA export price and amount.As the rise in this ratio by(1%)leads,the declination in the amount of Malian cotton exports approximated to 14.22 thousand tons.The regression results also showed that positive degree and significant influence of Malian export price.Due to price increase in last year?s,the country retrieved its position as a leading producer of West Africa countries.Competitive analysis also revealed the capability of increasing the MCE to France,Spain,China,India,Germany and Portugal markets.The study proved the difficulty in increasing the Malian cotton into the Belgium market. |
