This paper investigates the influence of land transfer on the eldercare patterns for the elderly in rural China.Using the panel data from 2011 and 2013 waves of China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study(CHARLS),the random effect logit model and propensity score matching(PSM),we find that enrollers are more willing to live dependently, whose living will is more sensitive to land transfer if their spouses are die. Also, enrollers live further away from their children. So land transfer has a consistent influence on the living will and living arrangement of the elderly in rural China, which means that the family mutual insurance will be substituted by public pension system gradually in the future.Different from pension, which also brings extra income for family, land transfer won't have an extrusion effect on intergenerational transfer. On the contrary,it increases the possibility of receiving intergenerational transfer and the total amount.Apart from the increasing living cost when living depart and the separation of the income of land transfer, the participation of farm work is the mediation variable between these two. When families leave the land, they will get into the non-agricultural production and get more non-agricultural income. So,there is a higher possibility for them to transfer more to the elderly. So,land transfer will have animportant impact on the eldercare patterns for the elderly in rural China.
