As the increasing of network scale and the traffic volume,more network middleboxes are needed in network,such as firewalls,proxies,and intrusion detection systems.Traffic is required to pass through a plurality of middleboxes processing in a particular order.This order is typically referred to as service chaining.As the emergence of network function virtualization technology,current proprietary hardware middlebox are replaced by virtual middlebox.Therefore,a dynamic service chain is constituted,which is to improve the flexibility of the network,and reduce network operational costs.Firstly,this paper introduces the background of the service chain deployment,shows that proprietary hardware middlebox.Then the general framework of service chain and the present situation of its research are described.Meanwhile we take into account that the IP over WDM network is dominant in the communication network,so we focus on the deployment of dynamic service chain based on IP over WDM network,to minimize network operational costs.Secondly,a link based Integer Linear Programming(ILP)method is proposed to optimize proprietary hardware service chain network and virtual network functions(VNF)service chain network under the IP over point-to-point WDM network model.The simulation results show that,compared with the proprietary hardware service chain network,VNF service chain network can provide more than 4 times reduction in costs.Because the middlebox based on the VNF service chain can dynamically adjust the deployment location with the change of the traffic,and select the optimal routing path.Thus significantly reduce the operating costs of the network.Finally,the VNF service chain is deployed in IP over reconfigurable WDM networks model.A path based ILP method is proposed to optimize placement of VNF service chain,to minimize the routing energy consumption.Result shows that the lower energy consumption based IP over reconfigurable WDM network,and with the increase in traffic volume,the advantage is more obvious.Meanwhile we used different network topology density in the simulation.Result shows that the IP over reconfigurable WDM network has more advantages in sparse networks.
