Attitudes On The Image Of News Images In The "Five Mistakes" Report Of The "Report"

In the past, the study holds negative attitude towards "Shun Pao" newspaper's text report on the "Massacre of May 30th Movement".Through study on the news images on "Shun Pao", the author found that it shows progressive attitude which is different from the text report. This article adopts the theoretical framework of problem study and agenda setting to interpret the attitude of news image.Through the statistics for the news images on "Shun Pao" during period of"Massacre of May 30th Movement, I found that news images were intensively published one month after the incident. There were total 38 news images and gradually reduced with the event quelling. The contents of the news images focused on three issues which are "casualty" issues, "demonstration" issues and "strike" issues.The largest number of news images focused on "casualty" issues, followed by the"demonstration" issues, the third is the "strike" issues. The different numbers of images reflect the "Shun Pao"'s emphasis on different issues.In this paper, through the comparative study on text and image reports, it analyzes the progressive attitude of news images' content. First, the news images revealed the tragic situation of the incident itself, to reflect their concern to the incident; second, it broke through the obscure narrative of the text report and disclosed the original story; third, revealed emotions, highlighted the sympathy of newspaper. Compared with the image, text reports are more indifferent, the image reported with more emotional heat; text reports are more neutral, image reports show patriotic tendencies. The image shows a patriotic tendency that is manifested by the flexibility of photography. It relies on photography to reproduce the scene to inspire patriotic feelings, and with the diversity perspectives of news photography to express standpoint.The article also explores the reasons why the "Shun Pao"newspaper presents two attitudes in the text and the image, which is the particularity of the newspaper in the concession and the enterprise nature of the newspaper makes it hover between the pressure of the authorities and satisfying readers 'demands, and the boss of "Shun Pao",Mr. Shi Liangcai's philosophy and patriotic heart to run the newspaper business which play a vital role.
