With the development of curriculum reform,more and more attention has been paid to core literacy of mathematics.As one of core literacy of mathematics,"mathematical modeling" is a hot topic for many scholars to study.Thought of model is one of basic ideas of mathematics,it provides theoretical support and method guidance to mathematical modeling,also gives basic way for students to understand relationship between mathematics and outside world.Therefore,it is particularly necessary for students to comprehend model thought.This paper analyzes Grade 8 mathematics teaching materials from perspective of mathematical model thought,and generalizes presentation mode and design intention of model thought in teaching material.According to this,test paper is compiled,and Grade 8 students are investigated in form of test questions to understand mathematics modeling ability of Grade 8 students.Through interviews with students and teachers,the author analyzes the causes of wrong.The conclusions are as follows:1.The learning content presented in the teaching materials contains a large number of realistic situation.Most of the selected materials are derived from natural and social phenomena and problems,which are close to the reality of students.Therefore,the teaching materials implement the requirements well of the basic ideology by the curriculum standards,focus on the students' understanding of the value of the model thought in solving practical problems,and improve their application awareness and mathematical modeling ability.2.Grade 8 students perform well in solving conventional mathematical modeling problems,which can meet requirements of teaching materials and curriculum standards.However,when facing the open issues,these students are still weak in mathematical modeling.This is related to lack of students' reading ability and teachers' lack of attention to infiltration of unconventional problem models.Finally,according to conclusions of this study,some suggestions of cultivating students' modeling ability are put forward to:1.Deeply excavating content of model thought in teaching material;2.Emphasizing the students' experience of modeling;3.Improving students' reading ability;4.Improving students' application consciousness of mathematics.
