With the arrival of the social transformation era,several different factors,such as the increasing pressure,risk and the limited upside in media work bring about a higher occupational mobility of news media workers.Such an uncertain occupation dynamic,to some extent,affects the choices of the college students majoring in journalism for their future work.By the empirical research on career identity and job selection orientation of the journalism majors in five universities of Yunnan province,this study helps to get to know the identification status quo and traits of the students for media careers as well as to probe into the specific obstructive factors,thereby to instruct them to make self-reflection and adjustment and to promote them to make a good job selection and find an ideal job.Meanwhile,this study tends to provide the government,universities and other departments with a frame of theory reference in obtaining a comprehensive understanding about the college students 'job selection orientation and to elevate the career identity standard of the prospective news media workers at the source,therefore,to reduce the loss of the news media practitioners.This thesis is composed of five parts.Beginning with a brief introduction to the reason and significance of this thesis,the first part focuses on the combing of several crucial theoretical foundations,such as “career identity”,“job selection orientation”,etc.The illustration of six dimensions of career identity as well as the explanation of research methods.The second part provides a description of the identification status quo of the journalism majors and makes an analysis of the law and traits on itself.The third part discusses the obstacles that affect the journalism majors 'career identity,including the double pressure from policy and media environment,the journalism education and also personal factors of students themselves.The fourth part makes some suggestions on constructing career identity from the following three aspects,the creation of a harmonious environment,the proposal of positive education strategies and the promotion of college students 'self-growth.The last part makes a summary about the research conclusion and reflects the method combining the quantitative and qualitative ones utilized in this thesis.The college students majoring in journalism in five universities of Yunnan province are investigated via cluster sampling.Questionnaires are distributed in these five universities,with 612 copies of valid questionnaires,and the effective retrieving rate is 94.1%.In the meantime,part of the samples are selected to be further examined and media practitioners and university teachers are interviewed as well,whereby situations in industry and academia can be fully understood.IN accordance with the study,the career identity of the journalism majors are,as a whole,in the medium level,far from the good one.The emotional identification dimension scores higher than the cognitive one.In the analysis,the vertical development of the journalism majors 'career identity presents roughly as three stages with a regular variation of reducing first and then rising with the growth of grade.Besides,horizontally speaking,there are four levels: the high level of identity with strong interest,initiative and stability;that of the lower level with lower interest,negative reaction and inferior stability;the general identification with moderate interest,reality adaptation and higher stability;and ultimately,that of the low level with an extremely low interest,resistance,evasion as well as low stability.
