Examples and exercises are both important parts of middle school mathematics textbooks,which have huge influence on the students' learning quality. Early in 2004,the Primary and Secondary School Textbooks Authorized Committee in our country passed five senior mathematics textbooks for the first check. These textbooks well reflect the basic principles of the National Standards of Mathematics Curriculum, and become the experimental textbooks for senior high students in different regions.With the constant development and innovation of educational concepts, both students and teachers have deeper understanding of the textbooks.The front line teachers have different comments on the examples and exercises in the textbooks. Some of them believe there exists the inconsistency even disjunction between the examples and exercises. But, are the two sides really inconsistent with each other? This thesis is meant to analyze the texts of the examples and exercises that occur in the textbooks to testify the consistency between the two sides according to their actual use.This research took the compulsory textbooks of PEP edition (A) as the subject,and analyzed them in terms of amount, types, materials, difficulty, actual use and feedbacks.According to the research, the findings are listed as follows:? Most teachers and students recognize the practicability of the examples and exercises,and the number, the materials and the difficulty of them are comparatively suitable. But at the same time the difference between the two's difficulty is not significant.? From the angle of the surface layer, the examples and exercises are in high consistency with each other in terms of the amount, types and material selection.? According to the five-dimension comprehensive difficulty model, the textbooks are of high consistency in terms of background, calculation, inference and knowledge base, while the exercises are more demanding than examples in the aspect of exploration. On the other hand, the textbooks attach most importance to the calculation while least to the background.Thus, it is hard to say the textbooks have reached a perfect balance among the five dimensions.This thesis is mainly to conduct a research on the consistency between the examples and exercises that occur in the senior high mathematics textbooks, with the intention for valuable reference to the setting of examples and exercises in the textbooks.
