Thomas Henry Huxley's Educational Thought Research

Huxley was a famous scientist and educator in the history of British education.He devoted to the education career all of his life.He formed the systematic thought of liberal education,and had carried on the extensive education practice,made a significant contribution to the development of liberal education.In this paper,based on his thought forming process and the practice of education,I pass the book on education and speeches of integration,combing his liberal education thought.On the aim of education,he advocated to provide comprehensive and complete education for the purpose of intellectual training and capacity training.On the content of education,he promoted science education,and believed that science education and art education,literature education and technology education are equally important.He advocated a broad education,guided by the education goal.On the method of education,he focused on the cultivation of common methods to enable students to solve problems.In this paper,I sum up its characteristics of liberal education,through combing Huxley's liberal education purpose,content and methods,and analyses the influence on modern education in our country.We hope to get experience and enlightenment from them.Science education was integrated into the liberal education idea,and he gave liberal education a whole new explanation.This was a turning point in the history of the liberal education thought and promoted the change of liberal education center in the 19 th century.Huxley's liberal education thought further development on the basis of the predecessors,his thought was born in Britain's industrial revolution,reflects the limitations of times.But this did not prevent him from becoming a great educator,his contribution and influence went beyond restraints of the time.His liberal education thought has enormous value,and is the precious wealth of human thought.
