| The current world, with which humans are in contact can be perceived as a visualized world. The rapid development of pictures and videos makes it feasible that everyone will encounter many chaotic visual information in our daily life, which requires us, in the modern age, must be equipped with "visual literacy". Visual information involves all aspects of life, including film, television, painting, advertising, clothing, decoration, photography, tourism, packaging design, even the facial images used in the Internet chatting and etc. Visual literacy is to extract both external semantic information and internal super semantic information through proper understanding, identification and presentation of these visual information. Therefore, it is the top priority to cultivate students’visual literacy in order to adapt to the demands of the development of the visualized world, as well as to meet students’experience in visual information.Through a variety of observations and practical activities, art classes can develop students’capacity for perception, appreciation and innovation towards visual objects in life, which is basically consistent with the overall objective of the cultivation of visual literacy since both of them value people’s ability of visualization. In addition, art is also known as plastic arts or visual arts. Nowadays, art involves in multifarious forms, types and styles, besides, it also covers rich modern visual works, such as painting, clothing, handicrafts, architecture, new media arts and others, all of which are more closely related to the human life. Undoubtedly, it is quite appropriate to help people foster visual literacy in art classes in the modern era. Analyzing the national and international researches on visual literacy, it is to be found that foreign scholars have long waded into the researches on visual literacy while the domestic researches are not fruitful. Fortunately, the number of research literature on the visual literacy witnesses a rising tendency in recent years, indicating that this research field has been increasingly favored by more scholars.The thesis is designed in five chapters. First of all, it clarifies the concept of visual literacy, as well as the features of the development of junior middle school students in every aspect; The second chapter mainly analyzes the present state of junior middle school students’ visual literacy and then get the outcome; The strategy of cultivating students’ visual literacy in art teaching is expounded in the third chapter; The fourth part is the practice of art teaching, applying the unit teaching plan to develop students’ visual literacy; Finally, it elaborates the prospect for the current art education in the era of visual culture. The main research methods of this thesis are literature study, questionnaire survey, action research, comparative study and observation. Based on the theoretical analysis and practical exploration, the thesis studies how to improve junior middle school students’ visual literacy in the process of art teaching to enable students to develop themselves in an all-around way in this new intensive cultural integration era, and how to better implement the teaching objectives. In teaching practice, the author advocates constructive learning strategies and methods, and the research-based teaching plan in the form of units. Eventually, the effectiveness of cultivating strategy is tested by students’ class reaction and their works, and the cultivating strategy should be further optimized. The cultivation of visual literacy is a long journey and by no means can the results present within a short period of time. The author will continue this research, progressively improving students’ perception, appreciation, interpretation and presentation of visual information, probing into the cultivation of visual literacy by both theoretical research and practical exploration from a deeper level. |
