The research studies the reading ability are influenced by illustration types and tolerance of ambiguity by survey and experiment, we get some consultations. From the experiment 3 (illustration types) x 3 (tolerance of ambiguity), we found that both illustration types and tolerance of ambiguity have great influence on reading.(1) The illustration is better than the no illustration on reading;(2)To the tolerance of ambiguity, comparing to the other group, the high tolerance of ambiguity group is the best on reading, the medium tolerance of ambiguity group is better than the low one;(3)The interactive effect between the illustration types and tolerance of ambiguity reaches an edge significant level. To the abstract illustrations, the high and the low tolerance of ambiguity are more helpful. Concrete illustrations is more effective to the medium tolerance of ambiguity group than the other tolerance of ambiguity group, but this type illustration have less influence on the high tolerance of ambiguity, the medium tolerance of ambiguity have less influence on reading the three kinds of illustration types.(4) The positive correlation relationship between tolerance of ambiguity and total score of reading reaches a significant level, and reaches a significant level with abstract illustrations score and non-illustrations, but concrete illustrations have not.Therefore, the different illustration types are suitable for different tolerance of ambiguity group, if the illustration types and tolerance of ambiguity can match, then the illustration effect can have great influence on students, and to maximize the positive effect of illustrate.
