In current English learning,English reading has played one of the most significant roles and the proportion of reading test is very large.But students are inevitable to encounter strange and complicated texts,and learners’ psychology will be accordingly changed.So they’d better use reading strategies to comprehend the text.What’s more,as an important cognitive psychological factor,English tolerance of ambiguity affects learners’ learning style and the using of reading strategies.But it haven’t been attracted wide attention to learners,especially for middle school students.Facing these practical English learning problems,the thesis aims to explore the correlation relationship among English tolerance of ambiguity,reading achievement and reading strategy.The author randomly draw 340 grade 8 students of Tang Shan You Yi Middle School students as research participants.And research instruments are Second Language Tolerance of Ambiguity Scale,reading test and English reading strategies.In order to further research variables’ relationship,the interview has been also implemented as qualitative research.The thesis data has been collected through descriptive analysis,Pearson correlation analysis and regression analysis by using SPSS 13.0.Finally,the results showed:(1)most students are mid English tolerance of ambiguity as well as their reading achievement are relatively higher;(2)students don’t often use reading strategies during English reading,but the using frequency of cognitive reading strategies are higher than metacognition reading strategies and social-affective reading strategies;(3)there is weak positive correlation between English tolerance of ambiguity and reading achievement,as well as English tolerance of ambiguity can predict reading achievement;(4)there is weak positive correlation between English tolerance of ambiguity and reading strategies,and English tolerance of ambiguity can predict the using situation of reading strategies in some way;(5)there is weak positive correlation between reading achievement and reading strategies,in addition,different levels of reading achievement will affect reading strategies’ using.According to research results,there is correlation relationship among English tolerance of ambiguity,reading achievement and reading strategies.And high English tolerance of ambiguity can promote reading achievement and reading strategies’ using.Therefore,the results will provide some effective suggestions for learners.
