According to the requirements of the regulations of Chinese curriculum of compulsory education, students must acquire the basic Chinese language skills which include good performance on using listening skills, speaking skills, reading skills and writing skills in communicating with others in daily life. At the same time, students should have the ability to read easy passages, to write passages which can express views properly and to use speaking skills to communicate with people.However, the teaching methods are not new enough and the teaching ways are not varied in Chinese teaching in junior middle school. Chinese teaching in junior middle school focuses on examinations. The Chinese teaching methods are in “Teach and Listen” mode which teachers talk a lot in class instead of cultivating basic language skills. In this teaching mode, the atmosphere in class is so boring because Chinese teachers just pay attention on talking about language points. As a result, students’ lack of interest in learning Chinese is the main cause of unpleasant scores in examinations. Because it is difficult to cultivate basic language skills in such a Chinese teaching mode, some Chinese teachers are urged to find a new teaching method to solve this problem.The purpose of writing this essay is to prove that Task-based Chinese Teaching can solve the problems which exist in Chinese teaching in junior middle school to some degree. Task-based Chinese Teaching means to combine Task-based Language Teaching with Chinese teaching in Chinese class in junior middle school. Taskbased language teaching is a kind of teaching which makes full use of task to plan and organize language teaching. In this teaching method, teachers must design a situation which is related to students’ daily life and must set a task into this situation. Students need to work together to use language skills to fulfill the task. Task-based Chinese Teaching gives priority to students and it stresses on students’ teamwork during the procedure to fulfill the task. It can help students to know the language points and understand how to use language skills including listening skills, speaking skills, reading skills and writing skills in daily life.There are four parts in this essay. The first part is an introduction of Task-based Chinese Teaching. It contains the reason of choosing this topic, the present study situation, methods of research, ways of research and definition. The second part is concept, procedure and theoretical principle of Task-based Chinese Teaching. The third part is an analysis and advantages of Task-based Chinese teaching and the strong points of adopting it in Chinese teaching in middle school. The last part is its principles and how to use it in reading, writing and speaking in Chinese teaching.
