English is a compulsory course in primary school which is greatly highlighted by the whole society in recent years. Many researchers look into the primary English teaching from the theoretical and the practical aspects. One of them is that pupils' interest in English is decreasing as the time moves on, which is worrying and widely talked about. To some extent, the primary English teaching ignores the subjective positions of students in English learning. Lack of the interest in English learning, some pupils find it is difficult to learn. Whether in theoretical research or in the actual operation, this field needs more scientific guidance. Only in these two aspects to stimulate students' interest in English learning can we change the status of the high input and low efficiency.The game in English teaching is widely used to stimulate students' interest. In this paper,the author gives a survey of the application of games in English teaching and summarizes the game categories used in primary school English teaching and the relationships between their use and teaching content and teaching processes. All these are under the framework of Krashen's Second Language Acquisition and the basis of mental characteristics of pupils. The literature about games in primary school English teaching and classroom observation, questionnaire investigation and interviews are also adopted. And the author also gives the primary school English teachers some advice, to perfect the combination of games and primary school English teaching and to make the game plays more influences on the primary school English teaching.This study attempts to explore the following two questions:(1) What are the major types of game the teachers choose to use?(2) Does the use of game have a difference in different teaching contents and teaching processes?Teachers and students in Grade 4 of a primary school in Zaozhuang are chosen as the subjects of the research. The author observes the classes and analyzes the statistics through Excel.At the same time, the author designs a teacher interview outline and a student questionnaire to 11 teachers and 180 students to investigate the current situation of game application from the perspectives of teachers and students.The results of the study show that the game is very important to enhance the students' interest in learning English. And the students also love this kind of teaching method. Game classification used in primary school English teaching has four types: phonetic games, letter games, vocabulary games and sentence games. In addition, in view of different teaching contents and processes, teachers usually use the corresponding games to stimulate students' learningenthusiasm. The investigative summary tells us the present situation of the use of games and its reasons for existence, which can give the teachers in the English classroom some enlightenment.
