The Talent Education Program Of The American Magnet School

Over the past30years, the gifted education in China has made considerable progress, but we still did not pay enough attention to gifted education in the practice of basic education. The reason is there are two questions in our education field:Does China need gifted education? How is gifted education going? The paper is a monographic study on the Gifted Education Program of the U.S. magnet schools by the methods of comparative education. Based on Chinese and foreign literature, the paper focused on the relationship between magnet schools and Gifted Education, the characteristics of the Gifted Education Program in magnet schools, and the Eagle Rock School case study.This paper is divided into four parts. As an introduction the first part puts forward the problems, research methods and the literature review. The design of study is also included. The second part focuses on the magnet schools, gifted education and the relationship between magnet schools and Gifted Education. It explores that how magnet schools gradually evolve into an important carrier of gifted education. The third part discuss the gifted education program in magnet schools, through the comparison of magnet school and magnet center in public school, choosing the later one which is more representative to be surveyed, and select the Eagle Rock High School as a case study. There is a detailed study of the mission objectives, programs and admission standards of Eagle Rock High School. The last part is conclusion. There are evaluation and analysis of gifted education in magnet school and the programs in Eagle Rock High School, at the same time there are some enlightenments to our gifted education in public education.
