The Application Of Translation Theory In Simultaneous Interpretation Between English And Chinese

Due to the fact that simultaneous interpreting are live,impromptu and current,and are influenced by time,speakers and the surrounding environment as well as various factors,interpreters need a theory to support accurate transmission of source language information and speaker's intentions.Interpreters could use theories to solve problems so as to accurately convey the source language information while improving the quality of the interpretation and to better complete interpreting activities.This paper is based on a practical case of simultaneous interpreting at the Apple Press conference in the fall of 2017.There are four most prominent problems in this practice: omission and misinterpreting that are caused by inadequate English language proficiency and subject knowledge.And the lack of preparation and inappropriate effort distribution also lead to the two problems;Translationese that is caused by overly literal translation of the source language;And the redundant interpretation that is caused by overly faithful to the source language and the insufficient ability of organizing target language.On the one hand,from theoretical research to practical application skills,the author uses three strategies from variable translation theory to solve some of the problems.This is mainly reflected in the addition of information that is intentional but not superficial to the original text,the replacement of information that does not conform to the Chinese expression habit after literal translation and the deletion of useless repetition that affects the audience's understanding.On the other hand,from the perspective of the long-term basic training of interpreters,it is also very important to improve bilingual language skills,enrich the cultural knowledge background,exercise psychological quality,and improve the ability to resist pressure.
