The article chooses a city named Yanzhou(now Meicheng Town,Jiande C ity,Zhejiang Province),which is from Song & Yuan Dynasty as a research case study. It uses the research method of urban history morphology to trace thoroughly on relevant literature and works on detailed image restoration. The map unveiled the floor plane, the change process and the full view of the spatial distribution of the grassroots management organizations in Yanzhou city from the Song & Yuan Dynasty. This article mainly divides into upper and lower parts. The upper part is the pattern and the change of the internal physical space form of the city. The lower part is the spatial form and the evolution process of the internal administrative organization of the city. The main contents of each article are described below. The first part is the restoration and investigation of the historical form of the physical space in Yanzhou C ity.It mainly consists of three chapters:Chapter one introduces a brief review for Yanzhou’s historic evolution;Chapter two confirms the study area is within the wall of Yanzhou(罗城),and also involves some contents outside of the city to further clarifies the dominant reasons for Yanzhou in Tang Dynasty’s migration and jurisdiction move to Jiande.Along with that, there have been three major reconstructions of the Yanzhou C ity Wall since the Tang&Song Dynasty.Chapter three is based on urban morphology research method, divides the urban plane pattern into urban walls, water system, streets, buildings and other components.By restoring detailed maps and studying related historical documents, compare the changes of morphological elements of cities in a long period of time, including the comparison of vertical changes of time, clarifying the“fixing”characteristics of many elements in the city, and comparing the elements in the same period and making horizontal comparisons for its distribution pattern. The second part is the restoration and investigation of the administrative space inside Yanzhou C ity.The article is based on historical records of the characteristics of the past and slightly older than the ancients time, mainly using the combination of the tracing investigation of the traditional historical geography and the historical pattern analysis of historical geography to trace Yanzhou city’s grassroots administrative organization space morphology and its evolution from the present and the ancient time since Q ing Dynasty to the Song Dynasty.Among them, the first chapter studies the grassroots administrative organization of“Zhuang”(庄)in the city of Yanzhou in Qing Dynasty; The second chapter uses the clear recovery plan obtained in the first chapter to further trace the city’s grassroots management organizations“Fang”(坊)and“Tu”(图).The third chapter, based on the restoration results of the“Fang”(坊)in the Ming Dynasty, thoroughly ana lyzed and used the urban maps contained in the volume of the local chronicles in C hunxi(淳煕)during Song Dynasty, and initially obtained the basic management organization of Yanzhou C ity in the late Song Dynasty as the basic frame of“(Maidu)Xiang(乡)-(left,right)Xiang(厢)-Jing(井)”.This study believes that from the perspective of Yanzhou C ity, scholars generally believe that the closed period system in the “Tang & Song Reform Period” has been destroyed, and the workshop “ Fang”(坊)has lost the view of demarcating the function of the closed area.It is not universally accepted. The “Fang”(坊)in the city originates from the Southern Song Dynasty or in the earlier period.Although its grass-roots management functions had been degraded in the middle and late Ming Dynasty,it has existed for a long time as a “morphological framework” or the concept of space that indicates the spatial division of the urban interior space.
