Freedom In Restrictions

"Art is the direct way between life and soul,it sublimate the passion of life into the freedom of mental." However,limitations apply to all.In real life,there are various reasons and rules that restrict people and things,while for artists,'freedom' is their ultimate pursuit-they have always been endeavoring to break through the restrictions in both life and artistic creations.Agnes Martin,a Canadian Americn artist,who was active in the 20th century,well illustrated the concept of seeking freedom within the limits in her paintings and life.Martin was born in the same year(1912)as the Expressionist master-Jackson Pollock,but Martin's works were fluctuating in between the Abstract Expressionism and Minimalism.She spent most of her life painting in New Mexico,where she died in 2004 at the age of 92.Her drawings were full of graphite lattices,or colorful stripes.The mechanical brushstrokes conveyed the loneliness,the silence,the unfashionable detachment,and the eternity.Nonetheless,there have been very few studies of Agnes Martin in China,.and many people do not know about the female artist who had an indissoluble bond with the oriental philosophy.The works were full of grids,so as the artist's life,which was limited by physical or mental conditions.However,the true freedom has never been deterred by any reason.
