China and South Africa formally established diplomatic relations in 1998.Subsequently,the exchanges between the two countries in political, economic, and cultural fields have deepened year by year, making more and more South Africans seek cooperation with China, and South Africans have more and more need to learn Chinese.Under this background, the Confucius Institutes and Confucius classrooms have developed rapidly in South Africa. While Chinese teaching has developed at a quickening pace, there have also been many problems.Taking the Confucius Classroom of the Chinese Cultural and International Education Exchange Center(CCCCIEEC)in Pretoria, the administrative capital of South Africa,as the research object, the author conducted field visits and distributed questionnaires.A detailed and comprehensive investigation and analysis of the Confucius Classroom itself,as well as the teachers, students, teaching materials and teaching resources are carried out. Therefore,it is found that the development of Chinese teaching in the Confucius Classroom is faced with problems such as insufficient teachers, relatively scarce teaching resources, learners unbalanced skills development, and insufficient learning motivation. The reasons for these problems are analyzed and corresponding countermeasures are put forward, which will bring some positive influence to the development of Chinese teaching in the local area.
