The Symbolic Nature Of The New Workers' Literature

After the reform and opening up,the transition period of China has complicated social reality.In the consumer society,"commercialization,symbolism" has become the main theme of the times.Respond to the call of urbanization,the direction of social change is a large number of farmers into the city,influenced by the concept of consumption,this group has been different from the traditional farmers and become the new workers.In the consumer society,they don't have the means of production,by selling their labor for subsistence,they become discriminated people and vulnerable groups.They bear the suffering which the times bring,but don't know the reason which caused their tragic fate,the only way they treat the life is endure,they don't fight for their chance to speak.After witnessing modern city,their hearts are aroused by the pursuit of better life.They imitate city people's lifestyle,quietly accept the pursuit of life that consumer society impose on,struggling in the modern city.Their pursuit is actually very simple "a house,a car and a good job",they also participate in the variety of visual images of cultural consumption.They don't know many of their pursuit of material is not for their own basic survival needs,but the era of consumption shape and impose on them,their pursuit of the spirit no longer out of enjoyment,but seek more temporary and entertainment,so the pursuit of spirit is alienation by comsumption.Affected by the age of consumption especially the involvememt of the media,today's literature has already diversified and complicated.The literary form is no longer confined to the classic of the social elite,popular literature has become a part of literature.The huge groups of new workers and their difficult living situation is captured by modern literature into public's perspective,when intellectuals speak for them,some of them have also awakened,they choose to speak for themselves in their own words.Can New workers' literature born in the consumer society get rid of symbolism,and speak for them indeed?This paper is written for this case.This paper is divided into five parts:The preface part briefly summarizes both at home and abroad's research status for New workers especially New workers' literature,states the significance of this paper,detailed explain the origin and meaning of the term "New workers" in order to distinguish the other related groups.The first chapter reviews consumption era's symbolism borrowed Baudrillard's theory,both "object","needs" shaped by concept of consumption and "consumption"are symbolism,so Baudrillard said the consumption era is a symbolic Kingdom,nothing can escape.Secondly,briefly overviews the New workers' literature phenomenon,according to the author,New workers' literature is divided into two kinds,and then presents characteristics of New workers' literature and two common fate in literary settings.The second chapter interprets literature's symbolism of the New workers' own creation,first of all that new workers' dreams expressed in their works is being middle class,when the middle class is reduced to the bottom or the so-called middle class does not exist,how can the "dream of the city" of the new workers be realized?then explores their dream is symbols constructed by the consumption concept,next use Bourdieu's literary field theory states New workers' literature,from the inside of the literary field,this kind of literary writing is a kind of competition about cultural capital,from the outside of the literary field,the literary field is always in a subordinate position with a variety of power fieldsThe third chapter interprets literature's symbolism written by intellectuals,intellectuals are not New workers,intellectual's understanding of New workers at a distance,from New workers' image,urban and rural dilemma and nostalgia economy to interpret "New workers" has become a seeing symbol.Then from the construction of literature from media,the media image and status of new workers analysis the media's important role.The fourth chapter puts forward some thoughts about New workers' literature,first analyzes deficiencies and values of New workers' literature,and then puts forward a doubt about can New workers speak for themselves with the literary form.In the epilogue,summarizes symbolism of New workers' literature phenomenon and the social conflict and power relations reflected by New workers' literature.New workers is a special group in the transition period of China,New workers'literature is also a new literature phenomenon,it has long way to go.Fortunately,more and more experts and scholars tume their attention to them,I believe this special social phenomenon will have a good ending.
