| Ellipsis is a common language phenomenon in Japanese.Matsuo Sajiro lists ellipsis as one of the three characteristics of Japanese.Ellipsis exists not only in spoken language,but also in written style.News headlines as a special form of writing,the most notable feature is inform readers the point of news with simple language in the limited space,in such conditions,ellipsis has become one of the important means must be used.There are various forms of ellipsis in Japanese news headlines,such as Subject Ellipsis,auxiliary ellipsis,verb ellipsis and so on,However,omitting the sentence elements does not affect the reader’s understanding of the sentence,which is the most complicated for Japanese learners.How to understand the omitted content correctly and how to use ellipsis naturally is a problem that Japanese learners and researchers have been exploring.This thesis by Japanese newspaper headlines as the main research object,based on the valence theory,through the analysis of ellipsis in news titles,intends to investigate form theoretical basis of sentence ellipsis in news titles,and explore the valence theory provides a theoretical basis for how the sentence omitted.This thesis consists of introduction and three chapters.The introduction introduces the leading research and purpose,significance,contents and methods,the first chapter will summarize the feature and the type of ellipsis in Japanese news headlines,the second chapter will expound the asymmetry of semantic valence and syntactic thematic,third chapter will classify headlines on the basis of valence,by trying to restore and complement the ellipsis that prove valence theory is the theoretical basis of ellipsis. |
