Exploring The Expression Of Metaphorical Elements In The Creation Of An Animated Short Film

Metaphor as a term in rhetoric,is a word to replace another word to express the same meaning of rhetoric.As a language rhetorical phenomenon,it is widely used in literature.Nowadays,metaphor gradually merges with multidisciplinary and a variety of art categories,and is widely used in architecture,cinema and art as an art theory,and these applied studies have done a good job for animation.Animation is a highly hypothetical integrated art from which combines many other arts,it combines the literature,painting,music,comics,movies,photography,digital media and many other artistic categories in a form of artistic expression.Because of this,the use of animation metaphor is omni-directional,and the metaphor value is extremely high.Especially in the animated short film,because the short duration,and some without any dialogue,in order to better express the theme of the film,the use of metaphor is to play to the extreme.Therefore,metaphor has an important role in improving the artistic expression of animation and deepening the cultural connotation of animation.Through the creative practice of graduation design and the analysis of the same type of animated short film,and on the basis of relevant metaphor theory,this paper is base on these to explore the expression of metaphorical elements in animated short films.First of all,it introduces metaphor theory,animation and other related concepts from the theoretical point of view.On this basis,the relationship between animation(animated short film)and metaphor is analyzed,and combined with the application of case study metaphor in animated short films.Secondly,it discusses the expression of metaphorical elements in graduation design from the perspective of practice.This part is the practice and application of graduation design,the focus of this thesis.Through the creation and design practice two stages to explore the expression and application of metaphor in graduation design named Controlled Life,and analyzes the visual conversion process of animation metaphor from four aspects:the original intention of creation(theme conception),role and action design,scene design and lens language,and completes the combination of theory and practice.Finally,it summarizes the function and significance of metaphor in the creation and expression of animated short films.This part points out the application value and meaning of metaphor by analyzing the three metaphorical functions,namely rhetorical function,cognitive function and social function commonly used in animation,not only enrich the narrative technique of animation,enhance its narrative,improve artistic expression,but also lead to the audience’s emotional resonance and thinking.Although there is a certain basis for the study of metaphor and animation,but no one from the perspective of practice research the form of metaphor elements expression in the animated short film creation.Based on the related philosophical theory,artistic idea and master ’s works,and take the animation Controlled Life for example,this paper explores and studies the expression form of metaphorical elements in animated short films.
