Dazu Rock Carving Buddhist Statue Costume Research

Dazu Stone Carvings locate in Dazu district of Chong Qing,which mix BuddhismTaoist and Confucianism in one style.The Carvings were built cover a long period of time,it was from Jin and Southern and Northern Dynasties(7th century)and reached their top in Tang Dynasty and Song Dynasty,which finished in South Song Dynasties.The Carvings have a great research value because of its various types,beauty of sculpture,grand scale and be well preserved.With the subrogation,rise and fall of dynasties,Dazu stone carvings have great value of research and appreciate.There are rare researches about Buddhist garments and monk garments.Therefore,this study will base on researches of Buddhist garments,status of carvings and ornamentation,and then reference researches of history,folklore and aesthetics,finally analyze and organize the clothing types and features of carvings by field visit.This study will be given a new view and angle to show the grace of Dazu Stone Carvings,and try to make people pay attentions about studying clothing of Carvings.This study will mainly focus on Baodingshan and Beishan.The first part will introduce period and background of building Carvings,which is by 3 areas to discuss the reason of Buddhist garments: physic-geographical environment,religious culture root and social history background.Second part will organize and classify Buddhist garments,bodhisattva garments and monk garments.This part will collect clothing types of Buddha,bodhisattva and providers as much as possible,which is not includingThe Heavenly Kings,also,it will demonstrate by words and photos.The third parts will demonstrate features of Dazu Stone Carvings’ Buddhist statues clothing by era,theme and common customes features.The fourth part will use photos for analyzing those carvings,so that we could appreciate the unbelievable beauty of these masterpieces.The fifth part will organize the different parts of Carvings ornaments and demonstrate all the differences of each period carving.In fourth part,it will analyze the differences and features of clothing between Dazu Stone Carvings and Anyue Stone Carvings.The last part will analyze value of Dazu Stone Carvings Buddhist statues clothing,find out the point can be combined with modern culture and commercial products,which make research more active and much valuable for Dazu Stone Carvings.According to research Dazu Stone Carvings Buddhist statues clothing,we could find out the culture of clothing and beauty-appreciation thousand years ago.The carvings are fantastic creatures which combined with humanity,region,dynasty and Buddhist natures.By elucidating and demonstrating of Dazu Stone Carvings,we could understand much more about what the religion culture is and make the spirit of our Chinese nation succeed.
