A Study Of Women's Excessively Active Behavior During The Ming And Qing Dynasties

Women’s intense phenomenon in Ming and Qing dynasties always has been much attention. During Ming and Qing dynasties, not only the quantity of chastity women reached the peak , but also formed a complete chastity shaping system. The most interesting issue is that during this period, there were a lot of radical behaviors of women chastity.These behaviors are centered on self-mutilation and self-suffering which has obviously intense, model, diversification,and strict characteristics. The radical behaviors of women chastity are more intense than general behaviors which representative by cut hair, cut ear, disfigured, living alone, broken fingers, Sufu and so on. The radical behaviors of these women not only reflects the female’s life situation,mental state, but also shows the social and cultural characteristics of Ming-Qing dynasties.During Ming and Qing dynasties, the female culture of Changzhou was more developed.There have been a large number of female chivalry deeds spread among historical data, no lack of radical chastity behaviors.This thesis takes Changzhou as main research model,make a classification of spacial behaviors of Women chastity,combined with psychology and sociological theories to analyze the radical behaviors of chastity women. Trying to explain the radical behaviors of women, and discuss the reasons for intense behaviors of women.The discussion of radical chastity behaviors of women in this thesis focuses on three aspects.They are the classification of radical behaviors, the interpretation of radical behaviors,and the exploitation of the reasons for the intense behaviors.The main body of the paper is divided into three parts.In the first part.it will do a statistical classification of women spacial chastity behaviors in Ming and Qing Dynasties with<Chorography of Changzhou Prefecture >as the blueprint and analyze the quantitative distribution of various behaviors.Then pointed out that the radical chastity behaviors of women in Ming and Qing Dynasties have features of inheritance, performance and difference.In the second part, it more detailed summarize three types of the radical behaviors in the first part as self-disabled type, claustrophobic and emotional expression,and use historical data combined with the theories of sociology and psychology to analyze them one by one.For women,these behaviors not only express the fear of remarriage and loss chastity, but also reflects their difficult life.In the third part,it is the analysis of the reason for these behaviors.In this part,the view that the external environment and inner choice as two aspects promote the female’s radical chastity behaviors will be put forward.Reading and imitation as the source and bridge of women to accept the chastity concept and learning radical chastity behaviors patterns also play a certain role in promoting.
