Research On The Bandits In The Hongze Lake Area During The Republic Of China

The bandits during the period of the Republic of China were the deformed products caused by the social changes in modern China.The growing number of bandits intensified the social crisis.The Hongze Lake area was a traditional "banditry zone" poisoned by bandits for ages since ancient times,and the banditry was the most severe in the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China.During the Republic of China,the devastating natural disasters,warlord dogfight and social unrest forced a large number of people to leave their homes,under such condition,some people started their bandits life,cliques and plunder,by taking endless reed field along the Hongze Lake as the natural barrier.During the period of the Republic of China,successive governments in Hongze Lake area have taken force and pacification measures to suppress the bandits,but failed to eliminate bandits from the root.Since then,under the leadership of the Communist Party of China,a flexible and tactful strategy has been adopted to solve the problem of banditry basically around Hongze Lake through the combination of incorporation,reform,force extermination,military strikes and political disintegration,after the founding of new China,the social basis for the breeding of bandits was eradicated,thus the banditry problems for decades was completely solved.This paper focused on the history of the generation,development,evolution and demise of bandits in Hongze Lake during the period of the Republic of China,and carried out a preliminary analysis about the distribution of the bandits,the causes for breeding and the behavior characteristics.There are three parts in this paper:introduction,main body and conclusion.The main body included four chapters.The first chapter introduced the general situation of bandits in Hongze Lake area and briefly outlined the distribution of bandits.The second chapter mainly analyzed the causes of the bandits in Hongze Lake area during the period of the Republic of China,including the natural environment,human environment,rural crisis and political crisis.The third chapter discussed the behavior characteristics of bandits in Hongze Lake area,covering the personality characteristics and categories of bandits,their means of life and the harm,organizational structure and discipline,daily life and customs.The fourth chapter mainly introduced the all governments' control measures on the bandits in Hongze Lake area during the period of the Republic of China and the elimination of the bandits by the Chinese Communist Party.
