| Painting Manual of the Mustard Seed Garden"is an authoritative encyclopedia of painings in Chinese history of art,however,scholars usually focus on its significance and value as the first textbook of painting study and seldom do literary studies on it.In fact,the main editors of this painting manual have a clear pursuit of its literariness.This paper tries to analyze the literary form of Painting Manual of the Mustard Seed Garden systematically and concretely and expects to study the literary purport of this painting manual deeply and comprehensively.There are altogether four chapters in this paper.Chapter one introduces the literary pursuit of Painting Manual of the Mustard Seed Garden.This chapter defines that the main editors,such as Shen Xinyou and Wang Gai possess comparatively high literary pursuits themselves and integrate them with this painting manual automatically,moreover,they attach importance to the literariness of "Painting Manual of the Mustard Seed Garden" and they deem that this manual has a profound literary origin from its name to its content.Chapter two explains the literary form o f Painting Manual of the Mustard Seed Garden.This chapter tries to look into the literary connotation of this manual from its preface and postscript,inscription,prosaic painting theory,poetic painting theory and critical painting theory.The multiple literary forms o f this manual show its deep literary connotation,and the preference for literary expressions also presents its editors’ ingenuity for their literary pursuits.Chapter three mentions the concrete poems of Painting Manual of the Mustard Seed Garden.This chapter mainly analyzes the concrete poems of this manual from the origin of concrete poems to the emotional connotation and art illustration of concrete poems.The emotional attitude of concrete poems mainly falls into concern about the picturesqueness,pleasure of a horizontal view,enjoyment of leisure and consideration of seclusion.This manual pursues the harmony between the concrete poems and the paintings,and it adopts various aesthetic approaches such as imagination,symbolism and synaesthesia to combine its literariness and aesthetics,in this way,it reflects the editors’ pursuits of the manual’s literariness,at the same time,highlights its deep literary connotation.Chapter four declares the literary and historical value of the seals on Painting Manual of the Mustard Seed Garden.This chapter mainly researches these seals so as to deepen the understanding of the stories of Liyu,Shen Xinyou and Jiaoyuan Poetry Club.In addition,the results of this analysis can prove the following judgments:firstly,"Xintingkeqiao" is the alias of Wang Gai rather than the alias of Li Yu;secondly,Shen Lilong is Shen Xinyou’s father and his grandfather is Shen Zemin;thirdly,Shen Hang,Shen Ti,Shen Wei and Shenqing are Shen Xinyou’s sons and Shen Siyin is his daughter;fourthly,Li Shuzhao is possibly a member of the seven poets of Jiaoyuan. |
