On The Creation Of The Documentary "Grassland People"

"Grassland People" is a documentary about minorities in Xinjiang Province,which truly records the pastoral life,customs,and culture of herder from Tangbula grassland in Kazak Autonomous Prefecture.With the rapid development of modern economy,the production and life of ethnic minorities are gradually losing protection from original environment.Suffering the intense impact of modern industrial civilization,the inheritance and development of unique culture of ethnic minorities are in a crisis.It is a must and challenge to consider how to inherit the culture by the means of modern image technics.TV documentary image is an important mean of the inheritance and dissemination of the minority culture.Tangbula grassland is located in the territory of Nilka in Xinjiang Province,which is named by its seal-like geographical features."Grassland People" tells a story of Kazakh herdsmen,Nulb and Ma Jinzhu,in Tangbula grassland.In the documentary,Nulb and Ma Jinzhu are set as two main lines for a complete story and filmed individually,which shows the minority's sincere emotions to traditional culture,customs,and life.The story of Ma Jinzhu also reflects a primitive attitude of ethnic minorities in Xinjiang to the nature.A nation's traditional cultural customs and emotions can be used to illustrate the integration of a country and the unity of the nation."Grassland People" uses small stories of Nulb and Ma Jinzhu to show the respect of traditional ethnic culture and tradition as a significance for national unity and ethnic harmony,and the important value of the protection and dissemination of minority culture.The investigation of "grassland people”went through two months;it involves the daily life of grassland people.To complete the film of“grassland people”,I collected about 300GB of film materials by experiencing the traditional culture and traditional way of life of grassland people.The proposal of the documentary(grassland people)to explain,how to use film to establish time and space art by collecting of materials,design,structure,taking lens,and the meaning of shoot.The proposal also includes developing the culture and grassland daily life of Xinjiang Province,and to discover the ethnic minorities culture deeply.
