Andersen's Fairy Tale Translation Studies In China

The discourse power acts as a unequal or imbalanced relationship in the translation activities. The connection between man and the world is a kind of discourse relation. Discourse, as an aesthetic approach to the interpretation and understanding of the world, is combined with the power factor in the process of translation. Therefore,translation can be understood as a process of interpretation and reconstruction of the original meaning . The translation of Andersen's fairy tales in the mainland China is the result of self selection and cultural construction. The operation of discourse power leads to differences between the self and the other, and the reasons behind different translation strategies reflects the discourse power in the conversion of cross-cultural texts.Limited by the available information, the scope of the study is limited to the mainland China. The subject investigated is translation from English to Chinese.With the focus of discourse from the perspective of translation and dissemination,discuss the characteristics of Andersen's fairy tales appeared in the process of translation. Because of the existence of the discourse power,Andersen's fairy tales are important in Chinese children's literature and which promote the discovery and awakening of the view on children. In the process of translation, it also presents characteristics of diversity. First, combing the translation history of Andersen's fairy tales from the scale and form, from scattered to comprehensive and from single to diverse is the form of representation. Then analyze the translation strategies under the guidance of discourse power. Proceed from Andersen's fairy tales' accurate translation,rewriting and contraction, mistranslation and misunderstanding, to discuss the change under translation strategies. In addition, the contents selection and the factors of Christianity are studied. Different elements as ideological and political guidance,cultural tradition,the concept of rich and poor,the psychological and understanding level of the recipient formed the discourse power, which leads to the above translation strategies. In the process of translation and dissemination,Andersen's fairy tales have become literary classics, which was an model of Chinese children's literature. The discourse power have participated in the process of canonization, which have an effect on the transformation of the concept of Chinese teaching materials and education.
