Research On The Image Of Young Women In Xu Anhua's Films

As an important representative of the new wave of Hong Kong film,director of Ann Hui in the history of Hong Kong film status is widely welcomed.In this thirty years of her career,she created many different styles,different themes and famous films.All those films insist on both artistic and commercial creation.Among them,there is a increasing trend of films about female subject.With Ann Hui's unique female perspective,it is different from male directors about her shaping of the young female image.In this paper,by analyzing the films directed by Ann Hui,trying to find out how the director of Ann Hui shape the image of young women.The introduction of the essay mainly illustrated the background and the current station of the research.The essay made a brief analysis and conclusion of the present studies of Ann Hui,which specified the core research content and the theoretical fundamental of the essay.Based on these,the introduction part made a primitive illustration and presentation of the research thought processes and methods.The first chapter of essay mainly introduced the origin,which is analyzed both from external and internal reasons,that Ann Hui built the images of young women.The external reason was that Ann Hui was brought up in Hong Kong,which belongs to China yet had been invaded by British for over a hundred years.The components of culture in Hong Kong is really complex based on the particularity of Hong Kong's history,which is more than a mixture of oriental and western culture.And it returned to China after invasions politically,which brought up a questioning and perplexed attitude to the citizens who lived in Hong Kong,which was embodied in many of Ann Hui's early movies.In aspect of internal reason,the social environment changed the focus of Ann Hui's.The essay roughly divided her works into four steps,and each step showed a special focus.After analyzing the representative works of her different stages,we could see an inner change of Ann Hui,which was that she payed more attention on the vulnerable groups like women.Director Ann Hui has been growing in her thirty-year's direction career and she became more and more mature either in the level of expertise in directing or in the comprehension of her career and her concerns,which can be revealed in these four steps.This Chapter led to an overall comprehension of the style and creation of Ann Hui's works,which made a systematical sort in order to better understanding of Ann Hui as a female director.The second chapter mainly introduces the typical young female in the film directed by Ann Hui and will classify them.Through the comparison between male director and female director about how to treat the nature of the female image,it can lead different in shaping the image ofwomen by Ann Hui and set a concept for image of young female.Therefore,the film about young female image that directed by Ann Hui can be divided into three types according to the extent of the awakening of female consciousness: first is the traditional female bowed to the patriarchal,second is the progressive female of awakening their consciousness and last is the modern female that pursuit to themselves.The third chapter studied in the aspect of multiple difficulties about shaping young female image.The multiple difficulties are divided into three parts:difficulties in times,difficulties in family,and difficulties in love.The strategy is from big social environment to small family environment and then about individual to analyze the young female image.By observing the young women's performance in dilemma to reflect the personality and experience of young female.The fourth chapter studied in the aspect of audio-visual for young female image shaped by Ann Hui.From three aspects of lens,the tone and voice to analyze how to shape young female image in the film.The fifth chapter of the thesis studies the shaping of the image of young women from the design of diversified narrative technique.Through the analysis of multi-view narrative and the transformation of narrative point of view,to shape the image of young women.Not only that,but also the use of the "structuralist theory" to analyze the film director Ann Hui's film structure and spatial metaphor.In this paper,the image of young women in the films directed by Ann Hui is taken as the object of study,and the image of young women in the film is summarized.Through the director's experience and the young women's image,And the narrative structure as the entry point to study the image of the young women in the film of the film.
