The study of teachers’ beliefs has received more and more attention in recent years.Teachers’beliefs play an essential role in determining the teaching goals and choosing a particular teaching approach. However, the empirical study combining qualitative approach and quantitative approach to understand the present teachers’beliefs and the influencing factors as well as clear up the relationship between teachers’ beliefs and teaching practices is barely seen in China. This research employed the questionnaires, classroom observation and after-class interview to study the 36 English teachers from a university in Tianjin.Through the research,we found that different teachers’ beliefs have both overlaps and uniqueness. The teachers’ beliefs mainly came from the their’ educational experiences, the pre-service training, the school environments and the teaching goals and school curriculum while as the same times restricted by learners, textbooks, class size, class time and so on.And still, teachers’ beliefs were subjected to change and improvement in their future teaching process.Correlation and discrepancy coexist between teachers’ beliefs and teaching practices.Teachers’ beliefs would select teaching method and restrict teaching practices to some extent, but inconsistence could be found between these two aspects due to the many factors.
