| This diploma paper mainly deals with errors made by Romanian students when acquiring the Chinese restrictive adverbial adjunct. In the learning and teaching process, there exist some mistakes made by these Romanian learners when studying Chinese, therefore there is a great need to investigate,to compare and to analyze the results and according to these, provide proper teaching and learning advice and strategies. The research starts with a comparison between Chinese adverbial adjunct and its Romanian equivalent. After giving their proper definitions and classifying them accordingly, would be presented a short analysis concerning the word order in both languages. In addition it discusses learners’ mistakes, the causes of these errors and it provides some strategies in teaching Chinese.Data for this study was collected from Romanian students who are studying Chinese at different Confucius Institutes in Romania and from students who have been immersed in the target language environment too.Two questionnaires were distributed according to the student’s Chinese level. One questionnaire was given to elementary students and the other one to the intermediate and advanced students. The results reveal that when in a Chinese sentence there is only one adverbial adjunct(which should be placed between the subject and predicate),the Romanian students don’t make too many mistakes. However,if there are more adverbials in a sentence, then the Romanian students tend to use the wrong order. In some circumstances, there is a fixed order,as many Chinese linguists recognize, but in some others(adverbials of time, place etc)the position of these adjuncts can be very flexible. In Romanian,on the other hand, there are many ways to express the same meaning, but using a different word order. The results of the questionnaires also reveal that there are a number of misunderstandings for Romanian students when learning this grammar structure.Based on the research findings,it can be concluded that Romanian learners of Chinese commit adverbial errors mainly because they do not have sufficient understanding of the Chinese adverbial word order. There are some adverbs in Chinese that do not exist in the Romanian lexicon;thus, learners tend to be confused.Emphasizing the word order and teaching adverbials that only exists in the target language is strongly encouraged. |
