The translation text is selected from sections three to five of a report named Intercultural Competences: Conceptual and Operational Framework issued by UNESCO,which is mainly concerned with the importance of intercultural competences.It involves some key concepts of intercultural competences and the specific steps of cultivating intercultural competences,which provides requirements and guidelines to cultivate intercultural competences.The report is an informative text.Analyzing the difficulties encountered in the process of translation,the author discusses the methods of lexical and syntactic translation.In translating words,the translator adopts the methods of conversion,concrete extension,abstract extension and rhetorical extension to select appropriate words meaning for ensuring the accuracy of translation.In dealing with the complex sentences,the translator uses the method of splitting,sequential translation,reversing translation and synthesis method to make the translation smooth and nature,and convey the original text information effectively.Moreover,the translator summarizes the translation experience,and hopes to provide some reference for the future translation of such texts.
