With the further development of Italian Renaissance in Europe,British historiography enters into a stage of nationalization.During modern British historiography,Polydore Vergil is a key historian in England.I want to learn the background from Renaissance's origin and Vergil's life, emphasizing on the impact on which his trip to England had historiography. Then I will elaborate the historical concepts and historiography by studying Anglica Historia and De Inuentoribus Rerum.About Vergil's historical concepts of Renaissance,he changes formal London Chronicles to be more political and compares classical references and contemporary oral materials to further extent to expand his books. Not only could he get rid of boring Monastic Chronicles, but also finds out the secular history according to his research of early Tudor history's value and Henry VIII's Reformation to present the cultural changes of people from the nobles and citizens.I take an example of Anglica Historia to realize the rational historiography that is collecting historical materials and identifying them, which has an important influence on modern British history. Then he is skeptical about the truth of Brutus Legend,a new rational and historical method.Lastly,I tend to make an two-sided estimation of Vergil's history. On the one hand,he is a pioneer of growing and progressive national history;on the other hand,he is a court servant and famous religious leader to forge the history, which is blamed by the later historians.I will display his comprehensive historical thoughts of rationalism and secularism under the background of Renaissance in 16 th century.
