Research On Solomon's Economic Ethics

Since business ethics emerged in 1970s,business ethicists have mostly adopted in a normative ethical way on issues of business ethics.Robert.C.Solomon is the influential western business ethicist who studies the theory of business ethics from the path of virtue ethics.The thoughts of the economic ethics of the Solomon,which analyzes the metaphors of business,such as forest and the cowboy capitalism,to restores the essential meaning of business that is providing good products and services to achieve flourish,and its purpose is happiness not just profits.He learns the wisdom from Aristotle’s ethics,based on the individual in society instead of atomic individualism to understand business activities,advocates recognizing the identity and responsibility from the role of citizen,incorporates the business activities into the greater social community,discusses the connection of six parameters(community,excellence,integrity,judgment,holism)of "Aristotelean Ethics" and business activities deeply,defines that the basic virtue of business activities is honesty,fairness,trust and toughness,and also defines the virtue of the corporate:friendliness,honor,loyalty and shame according the purpose of business activities.The thoughts of Solomon’s business ethics demonstrates that the bias of rational principle.Focusing the cultivation,of the civic business subject virtue is not only good for the theories and practices of western business ethics,but also good for Chinese business ethics.This paper is mainly based on Robert C.Solomon’s book Ethics and Excellence:Cooperation and Integrity in Business that published in 1992 to elaborate the theoretical and practical values for the contemporary business ethics and Chinese business ethics,which mainly divided into four parts:firstly,the introduction to elaborate on the research of the thoughts of Solomon’s business ethics at home and abroad in the introduction;secondly,describes the theoretical origins of the thoughts of Solomon’s business ethics;thirdly,elaborates and analyze the contents of the thoughts respectively in the next three chapters;finally,prompt my points from the international and Chinese business ethics about the theoretical values and practical significance of the thoughts of Solomon’s business ethics.
