Albert'swork,History of Jerusalem(Historia Ierosolimitana),isthe most detailed, vivid and complete records about the First Crusade. The book was written around twelfth Century,in Latin, and divided into 12 volumes. They had a detailed records of the Crusader Byzantine,Asia Minor,Syria and the whole process of the conquest of Jerusalem. What's more, the subsequent Crusader states' affairs and policies were included. There waslittle information about the author,we just know that Albert is the bishop of Aachen, and he did not personally participate in the pilgrimage.According to the modern research,Albert's work is considerablyindependent writing, and there is almost no effect by the other three authors who participated in the Crusader.Albertmay had referred to materials which has lost, and used a large number oral materials of the Germancrusaders. It involved manydetails that contemporaries didn't mentioned, and the academic value is quite high. However, the book is more cited as original material than history book, and there lacks research results.Especially in China, there is almost no monograph or thesis makes a comprehensive review about it through the modern historicalperspective. This paper is divided into five chapters. In the first chapter, the writing time, versions and the contemporary relevant works were introduced; The second chapter titled “the war inHistory of Jerusalem”;the third chapter titled “the religion in History of Jerusalem”;the fourth chapter titled “natural vision, ethnic customs, calamities and misfortunes”,all thesemake a concrete analysis of the specific content of the History of Jerusalem. The fifth chapter is the summary of the above chapters, from the perspective of Albert's historical purpose, historical methods, historical interpretation, make anoverall evaluation of the historical characteristics and the level ofHistoryofJerusalem. In the Conclusion part, the thesis will be sublimated, combined with the background of the times,to summarize and evaluate the characteristics of the whole west European Latin Christian historiography in the HighMiddle Ages.
