| The source text of this thesis is Chapter One(America-The Change Makers)of the social science book Culture DNA-The Psychology of Globalization. The text is chosen because more and more conflicts are caused by cultural differences in recent years,so I hope people can pay close attention to it and seek common grounds while shelving differences so as to obtain harmonious development. The source text focuses on transmission of information,so it is a typically informative text, which contains rich information with precise and formal language, strong logicality and coherent discourse as well as clear structural layout. Thus, the target text is produced with faithfulness as criterion, expressiveness as aim, conciseness as principle and Cohesion Theory as its guide. This report discusses, mainly through case analysis, the translation strategies of the abstract nouns and discourse cohesion. Here, the abstract nouns can be translated by the collocation meaning, the logical context and the word-using habits;discourse cohesion can be achieved by using anaphora, restoring replaced information, complementing elliptical information, adding conjunctions and resurging the same words. And I hope these translation strategies presented in this thesis can help those interested in translation and in the meanwhile,I hope the target text will be helpful to those who are interested in American culture and cross-cultural communications as well. |
