Nowadays,the prosperity of visual art in an era of reading pictures is closely related to the continuous evolution and exploration of painting art for thousands of years since the Middle Ages.The painting art contains impressionism,Dadaism and so on which have a subversive art concept.Every renovation of art and the rise of new generation of trend inevitably have contingency.The development of art is a process of innovation and overturn based on inheritance.In occasional cases,the breakthrough of art is also the inevitable tendency of art development.In addition,the creation process of painting art is a process under the combined action of occasional and inevitable factors.Artists with strong control ability can make their works harmonious and abundant.Regarding Chinese and western painting forms,their general trends gradually evolve into relative freehand brushwork from relative realism with the push of history and the revolution of culture.Take western painting as an example.It has experienced the evolution from serving religions in the Middle Ages to starting from the emotion of artists for expression.Painting has gradually become more pure.From the perspective of evolution process,it is not hard for people to find that there are gradually more forms and elements of contingency in paintings and painters' status of dominating pictures gradually decline.Even according to a concept,art has already existed in the world and artists only create it.Painting has experienced the transformation from controllability to the combination of controllability and uncontrollability and from foreseeability to unforeseeability.In the painting process,changes in the subordinate status and creation way of painters make painting infinitely changeable and possible.In this process,occasional factors play a vital role.The triggering of contingency in painting creation is usually from the properties of materials and the function of artists' sub-consciousness.Contingency effect is the behavioral outcome under the dominance of artists' sub-consciousness and consciousness is responsible for determining the existence of contingency effect.It is also an important factor distinguishing from photography which is two-dimensional visual art too.Sub-consciousness is an imperceptible part which is hidden in the deep heart of people.Art works which are completed subconsciously will be closer to the real look of art and artists.So to speak,it is imperative to probe into occasional factors under the action of sub-consciousness.Studying contingency can inspire artists to correctly treat and apply contingency and inevitability,sub-consciousness and consciousness,controllability and uncontrollability in the creation of painting art,break inherent stylized concepts to look for the new form of artistic expression and carry forward the spirit of personal independence and artistic innovation so as to approach the return of art ontology and enable painting art to yield unusually brilliant results in various art schools in the current era of pluralism.This paper firstly expounds the change of painting materials and subjects after the rise of European Renaissance and makes it clear that occasional factors are gradually found and valued in painting works through analyzing the creation concept and painting technique of representative artists and art schools in different times.The middle part of this paper mainly tells about the application of contingency effect on a technical level and the generation of contingency under the action of sub-consciousness,focuses on showing the exiting way of sub-consciousness and how to result in the generation of contingency,and then expounds the important status and substantial action of contingency in artistic creation.Then,this paper ends up with the painting creation way of Mr.Li Shaozhong and the author and focuses on telling about how contingency is applied in the creation process of the two persons.Finally,this paper emphasizes the importance of contingency again and how to control contingency for artists,and points it out that contingency has permanent exploring value.
