Chen Gexin Pop Music Research

During the history of Chinese music, recovery and thriving of pop music boosted the development and of social life and become the mainstream music of China. Jinhui, Li, the originator of Chinese pop music, sparked the development of Chinese pop music by “dizzle”. After Li, Gexin Chen became the the main pop music creator. Gexin Chen(1914-1961), created more than two hundred songs in his short life. His songs are easy to sing and remember. The melody is simple and the content is closer to the lives of the masses. Many of the songs last so long because of people's enthusiasm.In this paper, we study popular music from the perspective of Gexin Chen's film music. This paper concentrates on Chinese Modern History Study category. The first chapter introduces the story of Gexin Chen's life, creating process and classification of his works. By analyzing the influence of historic situation and background to his life, we conclude the music creation style; Second chapter starts with film music and analyzes Gexin Chen's film music works further. We classifies his film music works and discusses its widespread in the mainland of China, Hong Kong and Taiwan; The third chapter details the ontology analysis of Chen's representative works and concentrates on musical structure focused, modal tonality, melody and lyrics of development; The fourth chapter describes the cultural value of his works, analyzes the perfect combination of national characteristics and western music of his music, and evaluates his work objectively.
