Self-problem Research In Irony

Irony is a very important keyword in the western literary theory, it has a unique value, whether in the literature, aesthetics, and philosophy, and other fields, from the ancient Greek to the post-modern. Along with the steering of “ontology”,“epistemology” “language” stage in western thought, the connotation of irony constantly enriches and presents the times characteristics. Irony, is not only an art of rhetoric, which refers to “the opposition between utterance literally meaning and fact”, but also a kind of aesthetic medium to coordinate self-contradiction, it is also an aesthetic existence way by which Human deconstruct the metaphysics so as to seek self-authenticity. Irony reflects the awakening of human self-consciousness and its development course, it has a unique significance to human's self-awakening, self-transcendence, self-return, and the pursuit of aesthetic lifestyle.Irony roots in people's need for self-reflection and self-transcendence, and derives from the aesthetic impulse and natural pursuit in the depth of human nature. From the aesthetic valuable aspects of irony's generation mechanism and intrinsic motivation, this paper studies the self problems in irony. On the one hand, from the view of self and the other or double-self point of view, to reveal the inner tension of irony art and how to keep the rational impulse in pursuing self-authenticity or self-unlimited under the tension. On the other hand, to reveal the aesthetic characters of the irony, which has rich meaning and to point out the aesthetic impulse for people to pursue or return to self-authenticity in the rhetorical discourse of irony.The introduction outlines the concept development of irony, summarizes the current research status of irony, illustrates the causes and significance of this topic selection.The first chapter is about the self-awareness of rhetorical irony. Analyze the self-awakening of Socratic, in the use of ironic words. First, the paper reveals that the Socratic irony is based on subjective self-awareness. And then, from the point of view of the relationship between Socrates, city, and individual, to reveal that irony is a deliberate disguise, by which Socrates examines and wakes up others in the form of dialogue. The use of rhetorical irony wears mask for Socrates to live a “beauty” and “noble” life, and the secret of the mask is to awaken the self-awareness of others, to let them care about their own souls, and to encourage more people's self-awareness.The second chapter is about the self-transcendence of irony art. Take the German romantic ironic for example, to discuss the self-transcendence in the use of irony. Around the philosophic and romantic characteristics of irony, this paper analyzes irony respectively from two aspects: self reflective philosophy and self poetic pursuit. Romantic ironic is within self subject consciousness. It is an art medium which was used by the romanticism to coordinate conflict between self-creation and self-destruction. With the aid of this creative and destruction irony art, the romanticism tried to achieve the third thing beyond self-conflict, namely the unlimited freedom of self, and then to transcendent it constantly. However, the poetic infinite self-expression which Romantic ironic sought proved to be nothing, and with the transcendence of self-definition by irony, it is still in the process of constantly generating. To some extent, it also presents romantic ironic contradiction between ideal and reality.The third chapter is about the self-return of ironic language. Take the irony of Nietzsche and Paul de Man for example, to discuss the self-return of irony in the 20 th century. This paper reveals the two trend meanings of irony spirit in the 20 th century. One spirit of irony, reflects a game in fighting against the metaphysics and deconstructing self constructed by words, by which people can seek and approach self-authenticity, and it's just a theory try. The other one is the Pragmatism of irony, which is a combination between irony and the current reality, it provides a new way of self-return. Irony in the 20 th century, has richness in meaning revealing and game-play in discourse construction and deconstruction, making it be an important discourse way in fighting against metaphysics and cracking of ideology discourse. At the same time, in the irony words, that kind of intense pursuit in self-return reveals the internal connection of irony and the aesthetic existence style.The conclusion summarizes the study on the self problems in irony, reveals the vital significance of irony for human to maintain a aesthetic impulse in the process of pursuing self-authenticity.
